Dear Passionate Learner or Educator,

As NYU Professor David Elcott recently wrote in his review published by Tikkun Magazine,

"The Moral Meaning of the Bible undermines complacency, allows for moral complexity, and demands high standards of personal struggle. That is why it is so needed."

And that is why you need to give yourself (or a beloved one) the great gift of enjoying 8 or all 16 jewels of moral learning.

How to Order Now

First, The Seven Common Reasons Why You May Resist Ordering Right Now

Reason #1: I don't know who Reuven Kimelman is, so why I should trust that he is as great a teacher as you say he is?

Brandeis Professor Reuven Kimelman is one of world's foremost scholars, with a teaching career that spans several decades not only in the academic world but also in the field of informal education. For a brief bio, please check MoralBible.com/author. Perhaps even more importantly, you can experience a few fragments of his teaching at MoralBible.com/samples (please make sure your computer speakers are on and unmuted!). You can also read and listen to what other authorities and customers have said about The Moral Meaning of the Bible at MoralBible.com/testimonials.

Reason #2: I have no background in the Hebrew Bible, so I am afraid I won't understand what Professor Kimelman is talking about.

No worries: Professor Kimelman's teaching is for everyone. He is quite renowned for the clarity of his teaching, and his great ability to translate complex notions into understandable narrative. The entire series on The Moral Meaning of the Bible requires absolutely no pre-requisites, other than an open and inquisitive mind. Nowhere does Professor Kimelman refer to text that is not explicitly included, nor does he assume you already read anything, including the Biblical text itself.

Reason #3: I am very advanced or an expert in Bible studies (may be even an ordained rabbi or minister or a scholar), so I am afraid this work will be too elementary for me. Why should I spend my time and money on this work?

For at least three reasons: First, you will find Professor Kimelman's approach to the Biblical text refreshing; using mainly literary analysis tools, his teaching brings to light aspects of the narrative most scholars, authors and teachers overlook. Second, you will find his perspective unique and enriching: this is not about your standard Biblical exegesis or Torah commentary, it is about the development of moral reasoning through the careful study of these Biblical narratives. Third, if you are an educator, you'll be able to very quickly create a seminar of your own based on what you learn in each session; Professor Kimelman has already done all the "heavy lifting" for you, and the mindmaps are your class plans you can learn, enhance and then use in your own teaching.

Reason #4: I am not Jewish, so why should I be interested in what Professor Kimelman has to say about this topic?

While based on a Jewish interpretive background, Professor Kimelman's approach to the Biblical text is overwhelmingly a literary analysis, thus suitable to anyone, regardless of his or her religious background or practice, who is interested in the hidden moral nuggets of the Biblical text. Dr. Kimelman's focus is not on the theological implications of the texts, but on their literary meaning. You, like our many other non-Jewish customers, will find his analysis not only fascinating, but highly relevant to our modern times. As the late Bishop Dr. Krister Stendahl once put it, referring to Professor Kimelman's audio course on the Moral Meaning of the Bible: "[...] while listening to Reuven Kimelman, I had to say time and again: Why did I never think about that?"

Reason #5: I don't know any Hebrew, so I am afraid I won't be able to follow the sessions.

Again, no worries: Everything is in English. If Professor Kimelman will quote a word or a phrase in its original Hebrew, he will immediately translate it into English.

Reason #6: I am a very busy person, so I won't be able to spend lots of time going through a lot of material.

If you have a busy life, this resource is a busy person's dream: each session is approximately 30' long, just about right for the average commute to/from work, or the average exercise routine. Simply stick the CD into your car CD player, or transfer its contents to your iPod or similar media player, and you can fill your "dead times" with delightful and informative learning. We even created the audio track in such a way so that you won't need the text or mindmap in front of you (but you can consult them later).

Reason #7: I'll tight with money right now, and even through I'd love to have this, I'll wait until you come up with a better offer.

Yes, we do understand; it's a staple of our stormy times. But this offer that brings you savings of up to 46% is rather unique: we've never offered that much in savings, ever! So why are we doing it now? For a simple reason: we recently identified a much more economical way of manufacturing some of our products, and are currently experimenting with it. Consequently, for a short time, we are able to pass on the savings to you through this amazing offer. Please don't miss this opportunity: it may never happen again...

Second, the Why and What of the Audio Coursebooks themselves...

Professor Michael Fishbane

“Professor Reuven Kimelman's audio coursebook on 'The Moral Meaning of the Bible' is an intellectual and pedagogical masterwork.  It brings forward the powerful moral dimensions of several episodes in Scripture with exemplary clarity, and with full command and integration of modern scholarship and traditional learning.  Kimelman prods the listener to new reflections on the nature and complexity of moral decision-making.  The sequence of episodes are thoroughly inter-related and unfold in an educationally thoughtful way.  This is adult education at its best, and brings to realization many of Reuven Kimelman's lifetime concerns and goals.”

-- Dr. Michael Fishbane
Nathan Cummings Professor of Jewish Studies,
University of Chicago

In his unique journey, Prof. Kimelman uses well known Biblical episodes to discuss many of the “gray areas” of morality. By asking difficult ethical questions that emerge from the Biblical narrative, he helps the listener wrestle with these issues in a contemporary relevant manner. The focus is on biblical characters as agents exercising moral leadership. Each session focuses on one segment, asks provoking questions, analyzes the text closely in search for elucidation, and wraps up by suggesting one or more answers.

Here are...

Seven Reasons You've Got to Experience This:

  1. Professor Kimelman's approach is truly unique and refreshing

  2. The audio sessions are just the right duration (30')

  3. You'll learn no matter how much or little you know; we guarantee it!

  4. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much the dramatization reveals

  5. For educators, this is a ready-made course to learn, adapt and teach

  6. You'll find the mindmaps remarkable in capturing lots with little

  7. The well designed book is a perfect gift for you or someone else

Third, The Six Most Frequently Asked Questions...

Question #1: You mention that each volume of The Moral Meaning of the Bible includes "10 full color mindmapped summaries." What are those and why should I care?

Mindmaps are graphical representations of information that are radial. At the center of the page or screen, you place the core topic (such as the topic of an audio session). From that core the main topics emerge, and from those more refined items, and so on. The further away from center you are, the more detail or specificity you have.

To see an example of a mindmap from The Moral Meaning of the Bible, go to MoralBible.com/samples. On that page, click on the link labeled "Mindmap." You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.

With mindmaps, you can see the entire content of a full session on one single page. Thus, you can get both the "big picture" (how the topic is structured, what are the main points and segments, etc.) and the "small picture" (what are the details of each sub-topic). That is, both the forest and the trees. It's an excellent way to quickly absorb and review information without having to re-listen to 30 minutes of audio or read pages of transcripts.

If you are an educator, a mindmap is your class plan: you can follow it in class while you're teaching, so you won't miss any point. You can annotate it to add your own ideas, too.

Question #2: You also mention that the audio coursebook includes "dramatized study text." What is this and who should I care?

Typically, Biblical text in translation is laid out in books as paragraphs and sections. The narratives discussed in The Moral Meaning of the Bible are dialog-centric, so we worked the translated text into a layout that resembles a play with characters and parts.

As a learner, the text suddenly comes alive and is much easier to read, understand and follow. As an educator, you can use this layout to get your students to play the parts, bring its drama to life, and facilitate conversation and further analysis.

You can see a sample at MoralBible.com/samples. On that page, click on the link labeled "Study Text." You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it.

Question #3: Can I listen to these audio sessions on my iPod or MP3/MP4 player?

Yes. The CDs are regular audio CDs, so you can use your computer to create the appropriate format for your portable media player, such as iPod or MP3/MP4 player. For example, for the iPod, simply use your iTunes program to import the content of a CD.

Question #4: I am an educator (teacher, rabbi, professor, priest, minister, etc.). Can I make & distribute copies to my students?

It depends. All of these materials are copyrighted and licensed to you for personal use. However, we've had many educators contact us for this purpose, and we have made special arrangements. We do offer educators' packs that, at a reasonable cost, can enable you to use this excellent materials in the classroom. Simply give us a call at +1-617-731-3132 or email us at Info@OurLearningCompany.com with a name and a phone number, and we'll call you.

Question #5: I'd like to buy this as a present for someone. Can you ship it directly to them?

Yes. On the order form, you can click on a checkmark labeled "Ship to a different address," and provide a shipping address that is different than the billing address. Otherwise, we'll ship everything to your billing address.

Question #6: How fast can I get this if I order right now?

It depends on where your shipping address is.

If it's within the USA, we typically ship as Media packages, and that takes 5-10 days. However, if you need it sooner, you can specify that need in a comment box on the order form, and we'll ship the audio coursebooks by 2-day Priority Mail. If you really need it overnight, please give us a call for a special arrangement.

If it's outside the USA, we ship by USPS International Priority Mail. How long it takes depends on which country, etc. Again, if you have a special need, give us a call and we'll try to accommodate.
